Effective Listening 

A wise person once said “In selling, as in medicine, prescription before diagnosis is malpractice.”  If you’re attempting to sell without listening to your customer, you run the risk of missing out on potential business. 

Listening is one of the most important skills you can have.  However, it’s not enough to just listen attentively; we teach that you need to show your customer that you are listening.  

We teach you how to:

  • Analyze the information

  • Repeat key comments to show the customer that they are being heard

  • Be prepared to listen

  • Identify listener “do’s and “don’ts”

We provide rules that need to be followed in order to be an effective listener.  We discuss what you’re learning, how to analyze and deliver a solution or a feature and benefit that address a need. 

We concentrate on listening for the right things in a sales presentation: 

  • Your customer’s needs

  • Any Buying Signals that appear

  • A customer’s tone of voice or inflection

  • An opportunity to identify the type of person your talking to

  • Reference clues that identify opinions or feelings

Active or effective listening is one of the core objectives that we cover early and often throughout our entire training program. 

It’s not enough to just tell someone that “The key to listening is to not be talking”.  Whether you sell over the phone, or face to face, we explain how to give the customer the benefit of effective listening.
